Fat, sugar, and calorie-rich fast food is a nutritionist’s worst nightmare, but sometimes there just isn’t another option.
In the cases when hunger kicks in and the Golden Arches beckon, there are better choices than a standard Big Mac with fries and a shake.
Huffington Post recently spoke with ten nutritionists about what they would at McDonald’s and the results are all over the board.
Many of the health experts said they would stick with salads, but others said an indulgence of a chocolate milkshake with fries isn’t the end of the world.
‘I’d get fresh, hot fries (not wimpy cold ones) and a small chocolate shake. Why? If I’m famished, I need “quick energy” which I’ll get from carbohydrates, but also because … I actually enjoy fries and shakes. I wouldn’t worry about nutrition right now because it’s not in the cards. I’d rather get a healthy meal I could savor later, and something quick and enjoyable now,’ nutritionist Rebecca Scritchfield said.
Most of the nutritionists advised opting for side salads instead of fries, and getting grilled meat instead of battered and fried.
Getting protein in the meal was also important, so as not to leave the drive-through hungry.
