When the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus launched, something incredible happened: “Bendgate.” It was so prevalent that it even earned itself a hashtag.
Bendgate turned out to be all the rage in the mobile market for quite some time, with a lot of videos getting published that showed people trying really, really hard to bend Apple’s newest flagships. Apple would eventually come forward and comment on the situation (which, for some, only made it worse), but like many other tantrums on the ‘net, it would eventually die down on its own.
Of course, companies like HTC, Samsung and even KitKat would jump on the bandwagon of making fun of Apple’s bending issues, which probably seemed like a good idea at the time. Probably not so much anymore, though, as third-party warranty firm SquareTrade has found, though its own testing, that the Galaxy S6 edge, one of Samsung’s newest flagships, bends just as “easily” as Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus.
According to SquareTrade, both the iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung’s Galaxy S6 edge bend with 110 pounds of pressure. The main difference, though, is the Galaxy S6 edge’s display actually cracked after the pressure was applied, while the iPhone 6 Plus merely bent.
SquareTrade got their hands on HTC’s newest flagship, too, the One M9, and put it through its own fair share of testing. The results show the One M9 actually lasts a bit longer than the aforementioned smartphones, bending at 120 pounds of pressure. Though, HTC’s smartphone did break completely at that amount of pressure.
SquareTrade said this development could be even worse for Samsung (or HTC), “Because instead of a bent phone, they may have a pocket full of glass.”
